John Maloney

John Maloney is an established start-up entrepreneur, investor, and trusted advisor to founders. 

John served as Tumblr’s President from 2008 to 2012 and managed the young team and company from a two-person startup to a $1.1 billion acquisition in 2013. While at Tumblr, he oversaw all fundraising ($120 million across 5 rounds), investor communications, employees, hiring, and operations. Prior to Tumblr, John was Cofounder of UrbanBaby, a highly-regarded early web publisher, community platform which was acquired by CNET in Q3 2006 and now part of the CBS portfolio. 

In 2013, he was a Founding Partner of Terrapin Bale, a seed stage venture fund with a current portfolio of 30 startups including recent investments Bot.me, VidMob, Monkey. Early exits include Sunrise (Microsoft), VHX (Vimeo), Fly Labs (Google). 

John followed as the interim President of Circa in 2015, a tech news startup. After raising $2 million in capital, John oversaw Circa’s acquisition by Sinclair Media. 

John is also an investor at Greylock Ventures Entrepreneur Fund and has personally invested in 25 startups including Diamond Foundry, Copenhagen Wheel, Epic, Zype. Early exits include GroupMe (Microsoft).
